Volunteer with us

Your time. Your heart. Real impact.

How you can help

At Hamoaze House, volunteers are essential to everything we do. Whether you’re sorting donations in our charity shop, serving coffee from our horsebox café, or supporting one of our events, your time helps create spaces of safety, connection, and hope for people and families navigating trauma, addiction, and social exclusion.

Volunteering with us is about building community, growing confidence, and being part of something that matters.

Why volunteer?

People choose to volunteer for many reasons:

  • To feel connected and purposeful
  • To learn new skills and gain experience
  • To build confidence in a supportive setting
  • To meet others and be part of a community with shared values
  • To contribute to something meaningful at the heart of Plymouth

“I started as a shop volunteer. Now I’m working part-time and mentoring others. Hamoaze gave me purpose again.”
— Volunteer, West Hoe Charity Shop

Who can volunteer?

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds—students, jobseekers, professionals, carers, retirees, and anyone with time, skills or kindness to share.

All we ask is that you bring:

  • A respectful, open-minded attitude
  • A willingness to be part of a supportive team
  • Reliability, and a good sense of humour always helps!

We’ll give you training, encouragement, and help you find the right role – based on your interests, confidence, and availability. Some roles may require a DBS check.

How to get started

It’s simple to take the first step:

For charity shop or Coffee Box volunteering contact Mia Kennington

For all other roles (e.g. events, admin, group support)

We’ll arrange a friendly chat, explore the right role for you, and invite you to an informal induction if it feels like the right fit.

Volunteering at Hamoaze is about more than filling a role. It’s about connection, shared purpose, and growing together as a community.

Come as you are. There’s a place for you here.
